I did pretty much this, but came to a purple state with a nearly forgotten history of leftist politics. I'd say if you're willing, the best plan is to concentrate your firepower on the swing states and get in the fight to undo the state level gerrymandering. There's a lot more to the decision on where to live than just that factor, but it does feel like a benefit to make a small difference. At the same time, it feels a bit worse to know that I'm interacting with more people who have pretty terrible ideals.
