I took out loans. I paid them back. I would make too much for this program too if I still had any debt. But you and I would not have been able to do that if there weren't farmers, construction workers, teachers, truck drivers etc keeping society running while we were going to school. And their kids deserved to go to college just like we did. But here's the thing. More people went to school than there are high-paying jobs. So some of those people who took on the same debt had to go back and do really valuable work that doesn't pay enough to cover the crazy debt. They aren't dead beats for being teachers or nurses who only barely make ends meet because our pay system is so skewed towards practically useless office jobs. And if you're really talking about moral hazard, the system is predatory and everyone being "responsible" is only rewarding this predatory system. The pragmatic thing to do is actually taking action to stop this system and debt cancellation is a part of that.
