Thank you very much. I actually really appreciate this feedback. I think we agree on most points but I'll just touch on what I meant and why I responded like this. The important issue for me (and why I bothered responding at all) is the narrative I was replying to is demotivating for actually fixing the problem. And it's conspiratorial because it suggests the party is monolithic and unsalvageable, rather than a flawed system with some good actors who need more support. From my perspective I think that was the point of their comment, to convince others to go third party or not vote (and enable the worse offenders) As for why I employed that kind of juvenile clapback. My intent wasn't to convince that commenter (who I assumed was bad faith from their response). My perception is that their comment is meant to appeal to people who are swayed by that kind of dismissive burn. So I wanted to respond in kind specifically for people who that appeals to, risking that others who aren't convinced by that kind of pettiness wouldn't make it past their comment. But keep in mind, this is just based on intuition in the moment, and you could be right that it would backfire. But either way, I really am grateful for this qualitative feedback. I'll keep it in mind. Normally I just have to rely on upvotes to tell me whether my approach was too much.
