Socialism is not inherently authoritarian in any way. Socialism v capitalism is entirely concerned with whether workers vs property owners have control over natural resources and means of production. You can structure the mechanism of that control through authoritarianism, democracy, anarchy etc. It's understandable because the word "socialism" has been so demonized for so long, but that's largely the fault of pro-capitalist propaganda.
