I'd also second civil engineering if you want to have an impact and be financially well off. My brother is a transportation engineer (a subset of civil engineering) and he wishes there were more transit minded people in engineering. Many urban planners are already thinking about transit and bikes, but then the engineers who need to put it together push back because they are firmly car-brained.
