We're actually in a time period where it's logistically easier than ever to bring change. Regular citizens have more access to contacting their representatives than ever before. The main issue is that we don't engage in democracy en masse, and a huge reason we don't is because we've got a million distractions and pessimistic messages flying around. If you want to change it in a big way you have to put forth a lot of effort.
