That's just the thing. We tax the _principal_ on houses and reassess to increase the rate. We tax boats and cars. We tax a ton of large property investments, but we don't tax wealth invested in businesses. It's a huge glaring property tax shelter that you can even borrow against. Honestly, why should gains from stock buybacks be untaxed while unreinvested dividends are? None of it makes any sense unless you look at it from the perspective of "the wealthiest people set up the rules for the system where they put their money to be unfair."
