It's awesome that you are making enough money to live a satisfying life. I think the OP is pointing out that even in your role, you're likely making way less than you deserve based on what you provide to society. If we didn't have an economy built around rewarding useless/detrimental things, then everyone would be focused on critical work and you'd be getting even better pay than the software engineer making yet another gambling app.
