In one form or another, yes. Though "the government" could take a lot of different forms, from publicly owned banks, to grant-making institutes like the NIH to new ideas like venture capital firms with specific "widget innovation" charters. I particularly like the idea of publicly owned private equity firms, where fund managers are still given a profit motive along with social good initiatives (like only fund net negative carbon enterprises). The main problem with capitalism is that vested interests of small parties can easily be magnified by large amounts of capital with little recourse for intervention by the public. Take for example the fossil fuel industry or tobacco companies spreading false information to keep up their profits even when they know the societal damages they cause. Market socialism is an ideology that allows for mechanisms to stop those perverse incentives. I mostly just think market socialism would allow for greater efficiency in solving problems which is why I advocate for a shift in that direction.
